Use static where ever possible (R)
Unless you want to explicitly publish a function as visible to clients outside a compilation unit, you should indicate that the function is private by using the static keyword. The advantages are
- to help reduce name space pollution,
- help maintainer recognize the scope of the function's usage,
- to help reduce symbol table size for this compilation unit.
